Ario Muhammad has been starting to write since 2007 when he started his personal blog. Some of his articles have been published in online media and magazine including the articles in dakwatuna, INTAI magazine, and SALAM magazine distributed in Taiwan.
He finished his elementary school in North Halmahera (SD Inpres Gitor) and continued to study in SMPN 4 Ternate and SMAN. 1 Ternate for his junior and senior high school, respectively. His elementary school has been destroyed due to a horizontal conflict in North Moluccas during 1999-2000. During his junior and high school period, Ario won many competitions in regional, province and national level include the best high school student model of North Moluccas (Siswa Teladan, 2004), finalist of the best Indonesian high school student model in Cibubur (2004), top 4 of the Indonesian education ambassador in National Children Congress in Yogyakarta (2004), 3 times winner of English debate competitions for High School in North Moluccas Province (2003-2005), best speaker on high school debate competition of North Moluccas Province (2004), 2 times winner of mathematics competitions for high school student in Ternate city (2004-2005), third winner of traditional song singing competition for junior high school (2002), first winner of Nasyid in Ternate City and many more.
He continued his education to Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) in Civil Engineering Department. His initial planned was becoming a Doctor but he ended up to be an Engineer. Before enjoying his bachelor graduation ceremony in June as the best, fastest and youngest graduate from Engineering Faculty (GPA of 3.80/4.00), Ario succeeded to get a master full scholarships in National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) at the same department as he did in Bachelor degree. He received two research funds from UMY to finish his two research projects during his bachelor degree about Soil Stabilization using Rice Husk Ash and Plastic Fibre and Liquefaction Potential of Sandy Soil Surrounding Lime-Column.
He then spent 2 years in Taipei to finish his master degree (M.Sc.Eng) in construction engineering material and graduated with Cumlaude. In the end of his master degree, Ario met his soulmate, Ratih Nur Esti Anggraini, in Taipei. The couple then decided to marry on 2nd July 2011 after only knowing each other less than 6 months. His lovely wife delivered their first son, Muhammad DeLiang Al-Farabi in National Taiwan University’s hospital on 18 June 2012. A week later, his wife successfully defended her master thesis and received her master degree in Computer science from NTUST.
During his study, Ario involved in various organizations including the chief of OSIS SMAN 1 Ternate, the chief of Lembaga Dakwah Kampus (LDK) UMY, the governor of Forum Mahasiswa Muslim Indonesia Taiwan (FORMMIT) in north 1 region and an activist in Forum Lingkar Pena (FLP) Taiwan.
Ario authored five books: Notes of 1000 Days in Taiwan (Diva Press, 2013), Islammu Adalah Maharku (Elex Media Komputindo, 2015), Inspirasi Dari Tanah Eropa (Elex Media Komputindo, 2016), Notes From England (Elex Media Komputindo, 2017), and PhD Parents’ Story (Self Publishing, 2018). Notes of 1000 days in Taiwan is a memoirs of his 3 year life in Taiwan (2009-2012) while Islammu Adalah Maharku is his first novel about the romance between a young-man Taiwanese professor and a beautiful moslem woman from Indonesia. On the other hand, two of his books: Inspirasi Dari Tanah Eropa and Notes From England are a collaboration book with Ahmad Ataka (a PhD candidate in Kings College London) about their experiences in several countries including UK, Germany, Croatia, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and Indonesia during their PhD study and Fissilmi Hamidah regarding their experiences in England. His recent book, PhD Parents’ Story, explores the story of his family experiences while taking their PhD together (Ario and his wife pursue their PhD together at the University of Bristol. He was one of 5 winners of Kartini’s day writing competition held by Pro Media.
Ario is living in Bristol after spending 2 years in Surabaya as a junior lecturer in Civil Engineering Department, Narotama University. He received a full PhD scholarships from Indonesian Ministry of Education (DIKTI) to pursue his PhD in Civil Engineering Department of Bristol University-UK under Dr. Katsu Goda supervision. He then finished his PhD in 3 years and 4 months and now is working as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) at School of Earth Science, University of Bristol. During his first year of PhD, Ario received Arthur Holmes Travel Grant 2015 to attend the Arthur Holmes Meeting and the Field Investigation on tsunami in London and Shetlands Island-Scotland. He also became a visiting scholar twice in Kyoto University on June-July 2015 funded by the International Strategic Fund 2015 (ISF 2015) program from Bristol University and May 2016 funded by JICA, Japan.
Ario is willing to travel around the world. Currently, He has visited 10 countries including: Taiwan (2009-2012), Hongkong (2012), South Korea (2013), UK (2014), Japan (2015), Malaysia (2015), Turkey (2016), Brunei (2017), France (2018), and Swizterland (2018).
